Schwinn 438 Elliptical Trainer Review: Our Look at this Elliptical Machine

After the Schwinn 418, 430 and 431 Elliptical Trainer machines, came the Schwinn 438 elliptical trainer machine. It may be priced a tad higher than the earlier models but Schwinn elliptical machine has better specifications and modes.

Here are the things you have to know before buying this elliptical fitness equipment.

Schwinn 438 elliptical trainer equipment features and description

  • For resistance, this machine allows users to go through 8 resistance levels using its ECB or Eddy Current Brakes. This is very much expected from the machine due to its price range. The other type of fly wheel resistance is the belt tension resistance which does not goes as smoothly as the ECB does. This makes the Schwinn 438 elliptical trainer machine a good bet for those who want to have their machine in the long run.
  • For comfort, this machine has a stride length of 18 inches, giving you a more natural flow when you use the machine, compared to the machines that cost less but can only allow a stride of up until 8 inches. Most trainers agree that a stride of 18 inches is the minimum to make your exercise experience more comfortable and natural feeling but it is better if your machine has a 20-inch stride or more as this stride will be more comfortable as you increase your speed. Also, the machine has 2 padded and open foot plates to have a better feeling on your soles.
  • For operation, this Schwinn elliptical is very appealing as it has what is called a “telemetric” heart rate monitor. This monitor allows the machine to get a rather accurate reading of your heart rate and increases or reduces resistance automatically for you. This will go a long way in training especially those deeply serious to get in shape as lesser time is needed for resistance adjustment. Other models only have a pulse grip sensing machine that will require you to get a heart rate monitor if you do want a more accurate reading. You would also get 24 varying programs for work out on the standard package of the Schwinn 438 Elliptical Trainer which is great as it takes out the monotony of working out. Another feature of the machine that makes it a great buy is that it allows you to run forward or backward, depending on which muscle group you want to tone.
  • For monitoring, it is a known fact that if you do see your progress, that makes you more and more enticed to work out. With the Schwinn 438 Elliptical Trainer, you will be able to see your progress with its LCD monitor that will give you the following details: time, distance, speed, rpm or revolutions per minute, calories burned, calories burned per hour, the intensity of the load, profile of the work out and of course, heart rate.
  • For price, although it is definitely true that there are far cheaper elliptical fitness machines compared to the Schwinn 438 elliptical machine, fact of the matter is, they do not have the helpful features and longevity that this machine has.
