Fitness Equipment Stores - Buy The Right Fitness Machines

Fitness equipment stores may seem similar in the eyes of the general public, but each store varies in its specialties and product line. Finding a certain type of a machine or getting recommendations on equipments takes a little studying in order for you to find what you need. There are certain factors you should consider when selecting among the many fitness equipment stores on which one you should go to.

First, meet the owners. Owners of fitness equipment stores are often health buffs with particular tastes. An owner who specializes in upper torso and cardio exercises would certainly stock some good weights and would know a thing or two about walking equipment. On the other hand, they may not be specialized in workout apparel. The stocks of stores often reflect the personal preferences and tastes of the owners. Use this to your advantage as they may not only offer the best quality gear, but also give excellent deals on price as the owners know and understand their equipments of specialty better. Knowing the owners of a fitness equipment store personally also helps when you have problems with the merchandise. When owners personally know you, they will more likely be willing to help you out without causing you unnecessary red-tape. Finally, knowing the owners preferences will allow you to know what kinds of recommendations you can best get from them. Knowing what they are experts at assures you that their suggestions in their given field can be trusted. Owners are also able to refer you to other stores should they not be able to address your needs. They often know the specialties and preferences of the other local stores and can give you a good reference on other questions you may have.

Second, check for tie-ins. Fitness equipment stores may have deals or sponsorships from certain endorsers, athletes, manufacturers, sports groups and the like. There are two benefits to knowing this information. First, knowing their associations can assure you of their specialty. Second, the knowledge also allows you to pattern you workout program accordingly. This works by actually trying out the fitness groups that support the store. Chances are their workouts are based on the equipment available in the store. They may even be able to have affiliation discounts based on their working relationship. A store with ties to manufacturers will most likely have good prices and deals for items under that brand. While affiliations with groups and organizations can often give you either a membership referral or may also pack in trial memberships as a bonus for purchasing store items.

The reverse of the above example also applies. If you are already part of a sports group, fitness group or a gym club, take the time to ask the group organizers if your group is linked with any fitness equipment stores. Again, you may be able to get good recommendations this way and might even be able to avail of membership discounts. Fitness groups are very keen on the kind of affiliations they may possess; an affiliation with a health group is a nod to the reputation of a fitness equipment store.

Fitness equipment stores, like other retail stores, also have distribution rights. Some stores may have exclusive rights to distribute a certain sports product or equipment. Some stores may even sign up for full exclusivity for distributing an entire line or brand in a certain area, region or state. If you have been looking for a very elusive piece of equipment and cannot find it in most stores, then it is also advisable to you look up which store distributes the product or brand locally. When a fitness equipment store specializes in certain brands, they are more capable of acquiring extra stocks of an item that has recently gone out of stock. They are also a good source of equipment that may no longer be commonly distributed.

There are also fitness equipment stores that carry only very specific brands. This is the reverse of the above example. One advantage to stores like this is that as official distributors of a product line, they can easily handle exchanges and refunds of items and equipment. They may even be equipped and trained to handle maintenance and repair of equipment that are still covered by warranty. One of the biggest perks of being an official distributor is that they are often able to have brand specific promotions and are among the first stores to receive stocks of the latest products in the brand line that they carry.

Check for delivery policies of fitness equipment stores. Depending on your location, some stores may opt to use their in-house delivery methods or they may also choose to have your purchase delivered using professional courier services. Knowing the kind of delivery you are using is important when you know that you just purchased delicate equipment that should be transported carefully.

Ask around the local area or the other store patrons regarding the reputation of the stores. Some stores may carry bootleg or refurbished products. Some stores are known to sell defective and returned items in order to cut costs. Always check with a manufacturer to know if the store you are buying from is a licensed distributor of their product, this will save you a lot of time and hassle most especially with large purchases.

Fitness equipment stores often vary a lot in their products and specialties, but all these stores carry some very common traits as well. None of these common traits is as important as the fact that the average employee in these stores is well versed in sports and fitness equipment. If you can ignore the constant sales pitch, they are often good sources of direct and indirect information regarding the store. Well run stores often have happy and helpful employees, while stores with bad reputations often have employees who are unhappy and disgruntled.

With the many different fitness stores, try to remember these simple things when buying your fitness machines. These tips may actually save you from a lot of grief.
